A Message from the District 16 Superintendent
While in the Birmingham city jail in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King wrote "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." He also went on to explain that as human beings we are interdependent on one another as he stated " We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied to a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly". As we face the civil unrest and, police brutality, systemic racism, and the injustice that the world is seeing, these powerful statements still ring true.
In District 16 we believe in the power of student voice and social justice and we are so proud to share with you the voice of our students as they express their thoughts, ideas, hope for change. Our children, are creative, brilliant, passionate, and we want them to know they matter, and we hear them.
